YSA's Junior Development Program Phase U9-U10 Boys and Girls
Program Objective;
Student's at this age are capable of practicing a specific activity for a longer period of time. This is the ideal age for 'mastering' basic ball skills which more times than not is lost in the competitive travel arena at this age group.
YSA's focus at this age group is on technical training (skill development) that incorporates 3v3; 4v4 and 5v5 training models. YSA's age appropriate training curriculum ensures that players have the technical capabilities to perform the tactical components necessary to compete at the next level of play.
For an individual with average technical ability, this stage of development will look at primarily improving the player's technical (skill) ability and will also introduce a better understanding of the game all within age appropriate levels of activities.
Program Content;
Dribbling; Taught to keep the ball close, lots of touches with ALL surfaces of BOTH feet. Maintaining possession while sheldilng the ball, taking on players and change of direction and speed.
Passing; CORRECT technique for kicking and non kicking foot. Passing with accuracy and control along with intro of pass selection.
Defending; Getting to the ball first (pressure), defending by 'turning to the outside when facing own goal, when, how and where to clear the ball.
Small Sided Games; This format is designed with the young player in mind by simplifying the game, while retaining many of the characteristic aspects of a soccer game. The small sided game is the most suitable for developing versatile, thinking players. So many comparable situations occur in such a short period of time that the players learn to solve these problems with flexibility and speed of thought. Each session with end with and combination of 3v3; 4v4 and 5v5 small sided games.
